Aktiveum

  • Category: Inland & coast
  • Section: Sights

In the farm foreman’s cottage in Ankarsrum which was built in the 1830s, there is a well-equipped old-homestead museum. Over 3,300 registered objects are on display, objects that bear witness to life in and around the mill. The manufactured objects that are on display reflect the changing times in the history of the mill.

Ankarsrum’s Local History Society, known as Bruksriket in Tjust, has in an exemplary way preserved the rich culture of the area through an impressive industrial exhibition that includes Ankarsrum’s mill products, books and photos. You will find Scandinavia’s first and largest enamel plate works on display.

Aktiveum is within walking distance to the Narrow-gauge railway, one of Sweden’s longest relics of ancient culture.

Aktiveum received Västervik Municipality’s Cultural Award for its operations in 2009, and shared it with Överum’s Local History Society. Ankarsrum’s Local History Society was elected by the District Council in Kalmar county as the local development group for 2009 in Kalmar County.
